After you get all your rental gear for snowboarding, you should probably sign up for a ski program either at Mt. Rose or Boreal. Both ski resorts will have helpful instructors that can give you hands on lessons for learning how to snowboard. I joined the Sky Tavern junior ski program at Mt.Rose when I was younger and they were very helpful in teaching me how to snowboard. You also have Boreal’s 1-2-3 Ride Free Program, which is intended to take you from a beginner to a life long snowboarder in 1 season.

Now that we all have YouTube, we can basically teach ourselves how to do just about anything just by watching videos. There are tons of videos on YouTube that give you step by step instructions on how to snowboard. These videos give you the same instructions that an instructor would give you if you joined a ski program. By teaching yourself how to snowboard with YouTube videos you can save yourself some money.

I happened to find a very helpful instructional video channel for learning how to snowboard. The channel is called “How to Snowboard” from the SnowProfessor. This first video will show you the very first step of teaching yourself how to snowboard on the mountain. They list this video as step 2 because their first step is finding out if you’re goofy or regular. The easiest way to discover this is by having someone push you in the back. If you step out with your left foot then your regular. If you step out with your right foot then your goofy.  Your first lesson is learning how to skate and step on a snowboard. The SnowProfessor will show you step by step instructions on how to do this.

Note: Check back here where I’ll teach you step 2 of learning how to snowboard!
